Housing affordability

Many Queenslanders are finding it increasingly difficult to afford to buy or rent housing.

Housing is considered affordable if the rent or mortgage repayments are less than 30% of gross household income.

Housing affordability is influenced by many factors such as market influences, interest rates, economic and fiscal policy and mortgage deregulation – factors over which the Queensland Government has little control.

The ULDA aims to improve housing affordability in selected urban areas by:

getting land to market faster
streamlining Development Application approvals and
simplifying planning requirements.
